Weekly markets in the Costa Blanca South

Spain is famous for its street markets, and they are a great place to grab some bargains and experience the Spanish way of life. Many locals will buy their fruit & veg and household items at the market, and you can find one on most days of the week in this area of Spain. 

The local market in Spain can also be a great place to practice your Spanish! 

Below we’ve listed some of the popular weekly markets in the towns and villages in the Vega Baja area in the south of the Costa Blanca. 

Note: Presently the weekly markets are still behing held during the Covid-19 pandemic, though there are less stalls than normal due to social distancing. Usual rules around hand sanitising, masks, and social distancing apply. 

Monday 

Formentera del Segura has a market every Monday morning, held in the streets around the church square. It is one of the smaller local markets but stalls include fruit and vegetables, household goods, clothes, shoes, and more.

Tuesday 

Benijofar has two weekly markets, with the first held on Tuesday mornings. The market has moved from the streets in the centre of town to the Recinto Ferial fairground which is located on Calle Vicente Blasco Ibáñez. The market’s stalls include fruit and vegetables, olives, herbs and spices, clothes, household goods, and more. 

Wednesday 

Guardamar’s weekly market takes place every Wednesday morning. This is a large market where you can find everything you need including household goods, bedding, clothes, plants, fruit and vegetables, shoes, and much more. The location has recently changed to La Redonda car park, below the Centro de Salud and next to the Noise Music Club.

Thursday 

Rojales has a weekly market on a Thursday morning just outside the town centre, next to the river on Avenida Justo Quesada. As well as fruit and vegetables you can buy plants, clothes, toys, herbs and spices, and lots more. 

Friday  

Friday is a busy day for markets in the area, with a few to choose from. 

Benijofar’s second market of the week is held on a Friday morning in the same place as Tuesday’s. 

Los Montesinos has a market located in the plaza, next to the town hall on Friday afternoons. Stalls include the usual items such as fruit and vegetables, clothing, and homewares. 

Torrevieja’s market is the biggest in the area with around 700 stalls selling clothing, fruit, vegetables, leather, shoes, handbags, bedding, curtains and more. You can find the market on Avenida de Delfina Viudes, behind Torrevieja Aquapark. 

Saturday 

Almoradi’s market takes place every Saturday morning, and is another large and very popular weekly event. Located in the streets next to the Plaza de la Constitution, the market occupies more than a kilometer. Stalls include flowers, plants, carpets, handicrafts, clothing, shoes, fruits and vegetables and much more. 

Playa Flamenca has a bustling weekly market every Saturday morning spread along Calle Nicolas de Bussi. This busy market includes stalls selling herbs, flowers, clothing, leather goods, electronics, homeware, furniture, rugs, toys, and more.

Sunday  

Guardamar’s Lemon Tree Market takes place every Sunday throughout the year. The market is located just outside of Guardamar near El Raso with plenty of parking and around 400 stalls. 

El Zoco is a very busy Sunday market with around 300 stalls including fruits, vegetables, nuts, clothes, jewelry, furniture, shoes, souvenirs, books and more, as well as plenty of food stalls. The market can be found at the AP-7 exit 745, on the road to San Miguel de Salinas, and has a large carpark.
