Spain is well known for its rich history, diverse traditions, and lively fiestas. There are always many exciting events taking place for locals and tourists alike to enjoy. If you are planning a visit to Spain in 2024, or simply interested in exploring its fiestas, we have put together a list of the top 10 fiestas and events you should not miss. 1. La Tomatina – Buñol, Valencia

Kicking off on the last Wednesday of August, this world-famous tomato-throwing festival is an event everyone should experience at least once in their life. Join thousands of participants in a friendly food fight where the streets of Buñol become one giant tomato throwing contest. 

2. Seville April Fair – Seville, Andalusia 

Embracing Andalusian culture, Seville’s Feria de Abril or April Fair promises a week of flamenco, bullfighting, traditional costumes, and delicious local cuisine. Experience the vibrant atmosphere as the city transforms into an explosion of colours and music. 

3. San Fermín – Pamplona, Navarre

San Fermín, known internationally for the Running of the Bulls festival, offers an electrifying experience. Visitors will witness the adrenaline rush as brave (or crazy!) participants race through the narrow streets of Pamplona alongside a herd of bulls. Apart from the thrilling run, you’ll also experience traditional parades, fireworks, and vibrant festivities.

4. Las Fallas – Valencia

7. Semana Santa – throughout Spain

Semana Santa, or Holy Week, is celebrated with great solemnity and passion across Spain. Various cities, including Seville, Malaga, and Granada, host fabulous processions featuring religious statues, beautifully adorned floats, and haunting music. Visit Spain at Easter and you will no doubt find a Semana Santa celebration in a town near you. 

8. Fiesta de San Fermin – Irún, Basque Country

A vibrant celebration taking place on the Spanish-French border, Fiesta de San Fermin offers an array of Basque traditions, including txupinazo (opening ceremony), bull runs, street parties, and Basque sports. The perfect opportunity to experience the cultural heritage of the Basque Country.
