Costa Blanca’s beaches are ready for summer

summer written in the sand

At the end of this month it will be officially summer, though here on the Costa Blanca it has felt like summer since the start of May – definitely one of the best parts about living in Spain!

With average temperatures of 25-30°C in the summer months, both Costa Blanca residents and holiday makers alike usually head for the beaches to enjoy the sunny weather.

Spain’s tourism minister, Reyes Maroto, has confirmed that foreign tourists can book holidays to Spain from 1st July, and that the mandatory 14 day quarantine rule for foreign tourists will be lifted from this point. This is great news for the Spanish tourist industry and means that the beaches in Spain will soon be busy again.

This summer in Spain may be a little different than previous years (there will be no fiestas for start!) but if you are aware of the rules in place you can still enjoy a fun day out at the beach.

On the Costa Blanca we are very lucky to be home so many of the blue flag beaches in Spain.

What are the rules for visiting beaches in Spain during lockdown?

We’ve listed below the beaches that are open on the Costa Blanca South at the moment and have included the rules for visiting beaches in Spain during lockdown…

Guardamar del Segura

Guardamar del Segura is home to stretches of golden sandy beaches and crystal-clear seas, as well as plenty of restaurants and bars along the promenade.

The beaches in Guardamar are now open though there are a few rules in place:

  • You must keep 4 meters away from other groups at all times and 6 meters away from the edge of the sea to allow people to safely walk along the shoreline.
  • Ball games, shovels, and inflatable lilos are not allowed apart from those needed for the safety of children.
  • Toilets, changing rooms, and foot showers are all closed.
  • Entrances and exits to the beaches are clearly marked and must be followed.

The townhall have installed signs in Spanish, Valencian and English at the entrances and exits to the beaches, highlighting the rules and safety information.

Elche

From Playa del Pinet up to El Altet, Elche’s beaches are known for their fine white sand and dune eco systems.

Playa El Pinet

The beaches in Elche are now open and you are allowed to sit on the sand and bathe in the sea. Whilst no official rules have been published on the use of the beaches in this area, you must still maintain social distancing on the beach and in the sea, and the toilets and showers are currently closed.

If you are looking for a new home near the wonderful beaches of Elche, we recommend the popular residential area of La Marina. It is approximately 300m from the center of town to the beach of Playa la Marina, with 1.5km of golden sand and vast pine forests. Our favourite properties in La Marina at the moment are these beautiful modern villas

Torrevieja

Torrevieja has beach for every taste, from secluded beaches and small coves to the bustling busy central beach.

The beaches in Torrevieja opened a little later than others in the local area, but all are now open for sunbathing and swimming.

Playa La Cura

Torrevieja City Council have announced they will be hiring 100 people to be in charge of the control and surveillance of the beaches to ensure safety and help people to understand the precautions in place. Work is also being carried out to implement a mobile and telephone system to allow reservations of timeslots to visit the beach in order to control crowds this summer.

If you want to live close to the beaches of Torrevieja, take a look at our available properties including this refurbished first floor apartment and this three bedroom townhouse.

Orihuela Costa

From Punta Prima to Mil Palmeras, the beaches of Orihuela Costa cover 16km varying from rugged coastline with crystal-clear water to fine white sandy beaches.

Playa La Zenia

The beaches are now open for swimming and sunbathing, with a few restrictions in place:

  • Access to the beaches must be through the indicated areas.
  • There are no showers or public toilets open.
  • You must keep 4 meters away from other people on the beach and 2 meters apart in the sea.
  • Ball games and inflatable lilos are prohibited, and lifeguards are only on duty at the weekends.

When visiting the beaches in Spain, you must remember that face masks are currently mandatory in public places where it is not possible to maintain a distance of 2 meters from others. This means you may need to wear a face mask when walking along the promenade, or entering and exiting the beach.
